Farmers Market at Marion Square
Marion Square Farmers Market: Each Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., local farmers and juried artists display the fruits of their labor to the joy of locals and visitors alike. In addition to fresh produce, art and jewelry, you will find fresh pasta (highly recommend the beet root fettuccini), sauces and chutneys that you can cook up in the kitchen of your Francis Premium Rental condo. Your taste buds can also be instantly gratified with offerings as diverse as boiled peanuts, sweet or savory crepes, Italian Ice Cream or not to be missed fresh lemonade. The Marion Square Farmers Market has a festive atmosphere with live music.
Historic Home Tours
The Akin-Rhett House is located at 43 Elizabeth Street. Here you can experience a wonderful 30-minute self-guided audio tour of this 1827 historic home. The Aikin-Rhett home is a prime example of conservation (vs. restoration) as it has been preserved as it was in 1860. This tour provides the viewer a glimpse into what life may have been like in a bygone era at a former urban plantation. Open year-round Mon-Sat 10am-5pm, Sun 2pm-5pm. Closed Thanksgiving Day and Dec 24th and 25th.
Please note: you can save a few dollars by purchasing combination tickets for the Aikin-Rhett House with the Nathaniel-Russell House. However, if you do so, please keep in mind that they are not located in the same district. We would recommend that you allot ample time for travel between tours or visit the homes on separate days.
The Edmondston-Alston House is located at 21 East Battery and is a convenient stop for when you take a walk along the seawall. Built in the early 1800’s, this mansion was the first house on the High Battery overlooking the harbor. Guided tours are 30 minutes in durations and are available year-round, Tue-Sat from 10am-4:30pm, Sun & Mon 1:30 pm-4:30pm. Closed Thanksgiving Day and Dec 25th.
The Hayward-Washington House is located at 87 Church Street, remains unchanged since it was built in 1772 within the boundaries of the old walled city. Hours of operation are Mon-Sat 10am-5pm and Sun 1pm-5pm. Closed major holidays.
The Joseph Manigault House is located at 350 Meeting Street
